Menace (1976)

“Actually the scene at that time, looking back on it today, was incredible. The depth of feeling that the Party was going to be outlawed and people were going to be arrested overnight and put into concentration camps was very, very deep” Ted Laurie, Q.C.

DYHD? kick off monthly screenings of classic Australian documentary at the George Revival Cinema with John Hughes' classic 1976 Australian documentary Menace. The early cold war years in Australia were characterized by attempts to suppress political dissent including banning of the Communist Party. In Menace we see the experience from the perspective of those who defended democratic freedoms.

Also screening will be the short documentary The Honourable Peter Garret (2009) by Jacqui Lothian.
